Company Overview
GoBackTV strives to help television service providers implement their visions for the services of today and tomorrow. With our RetroVue™ System, we streamline the transition from analog to digital broadcast, from digital to switched broadcast, and from broadcast to narrowcast/unicast services like VoD, time-shifting, network PVR, and IPTV.
The Vision
GoBackTV's RetroVue technology has its roots in its founder's vision, which was first articulated to the founding team back in the 2000-2001 time frame. The vision was to leverage digital video compression and the increasing amount of bandwidth to the home, to provide an individually controllable video stream to every television in every home. The fundamental concept was to start with digital television signals and take advantage of the proliferation of high-speed, bi-directional pipes to the home, and data/IT-industry advances, economies of scale, and innovation.
The presence of an interactive channel to the home would allow the use of a relatively inexpensive two-way set top box; advanced features and capabilities could be delivered from headend-based equipment, rather than over expensive customer premises equipment. Subscribers would not only be able to enjoy existing VoD and iTV applications, but would also be able to manipulate live TV in real time--any channel, any interval, through the click of a remote control, without complex menus or advance planning. New features could be delivered to the entire population of set top boxes via head end upgrades, without the need for costly truck rolls or CPE swaps. In addition, the bi-directional nature of the connection would allow the television service operator the ability to aggregate user statistics as well as implement advanced advertising services.
Approaching the Future
RetroVue components are designed to scale from building-sized solutions to city-wide, with open, standards-based interfaces. They can be deployed in centralized, distributed, or hybrid architectures, as full systems or in conjunction with legacy services. We support cable, xDSL, fiber, and even standand alone Gigabit Ethernet; high-definition TV and standard-definition; constant bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) flows; MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and other IPTV codecs; broadcast, multicast, and unicast. The net result is a versatile basic system designed for today and the future. Today, GoBackTV's basic RetroVue System has had successful validation and testing around the globe, with more sites and more applications underway. The team is particularly excited about the upcoming GigaQAM IP, which will add IPTV-over-cable capabilities to the current family of GigaQAM edgeQAMs. We at GoBackTV are very pleased at how well we have been able to bring our original roadmap to life, leading to a series of TV delivery head ends for both the present and the future.
